"Thundersnow" on the way

“Batten down the hatches” is the warning from the Met Office for the Welshpool area with “thundersnow” on the way tomorrow (Thursday).

The Met Office has issued a “Yellow be aware” warning for Mid Wales with up to 10cms of snow forecast with a Meteorologist predicting a 20-30% chance of thundersnow.

The meteorologist described thundersnow as being similar to a thunderstorm, except snow falls instead of rain. "When it's really cold, like we're experiencing over the next few days, the rain that would usually fall will fall as snow as it's that cold," said the meteorologist.

The spokesman said there is the potential for transport disruption, with icy stretches on roads and pavements possible.
