15/01/2017 @ 04:43

Newtown and Guilsfield booked their places in the final of the Shrewsbury & Wem Cup following a big night of shooting.

Newtown stunned Montgomeryshire & District Airgun League leaders Arddleen 200.4-197.7 to book their final spot, with Don Corbett recording a possible 35.3.

Guilsfield A will be their opponents after beating Castle Caereinion 203.5-195.6 despite a star performance from Castle’s Richard Morgan who shot a possible 35.2.

Meanwhile, the league, sponsored by AE Autoelectrical, went to form with leaders Arddleen beating Forden 207.3-183.5 thanks to possibles by Nick Parr (35.3) and captain John Davies (35.2).

Second placed Guilsfield A kept pace at Crew Green B with a 200.6-193.9 win, while third placed Churchstoke won at in-form Newtown 201.7-195.1 with super Jane Thomas shooting her way to another possible of 35.3.

Fourth placed Castle Caereinion entertained Llanfair. The home side just coming out on top 203.1-197.0 with a much more consistent team performance overall. The highlight being a head to head between Richard Morgan (Castle) and Dai Tom Williams (Llanfair) who shared the spoils with both shooting possibles of 35.2 each.

Fifth placed Guilsfield B beat Crew Green A 198.8-194.9 despite Dave Morgan getting a possible 35.4 for the visitors.

Team of the week.

Has to go to Arddleen for their 207.3

Match of the week

Difficult, but Castle v Llanfair edges it for being a close match, with only one scoring shooter making the difference, and a fantastic head to head shoot-out between Richard Morgan and Dai Tom Williams.

Shooter of the week

Several 35 scorers in contention, also Steve Forrester for his string of 5.1’s spoilt by that horrible miss shot. However, it’s a senior shooter, captain John Davies (Arddleen) for his 35.2 showing the young guns how it’s done!

On Thursday, the Upper individual KO takes place at the Royal Oak in Welshpool at 8pm. Anyone wishing to see what Bell Target shooting is all about is invited to come along and watch the league’s top shooters battle it out head to head.
