Two cars parked within 50 metres of Welshpool Police Station have had their windows smashed in an apparent robbery.
The cars, parked on Howell Drive, belong to elderly residents from Haven Court which overlooks the police station (pictured) that is temporarily closed to allow urgent works to take place. We have also been told that more cars were targeted on Saturday night at the railway station.
But one neighbour of the Howell Drive victims told us that the problem of cars being vandalised in that area has been around for years, leaving the elderly feeling insecure.
“There are seven senior citizens living there with a warden so for two of their cars to have been targeted like this is very worrying for them all,” the neighbour told us. “This is not the first time; this has been an all too frequent occurrence for years and the fact that a police station is within spitting distance doesn’t seem to matter to them.
“On this occasion they have not only broken the windows but have had a rummage around inside to see what could be taken. They are despicable cowards.”
We are told that vandalism was happening so often at one stage that one former resident took to sleeping in the back of his car!
We have contacted the police and will share the response once received, but if you have any information about the Saturday night attacks contact 101.
