Volunteers assist after car crash

30/01/2017 @ 07:00

Volunteers showed their community spirit by pitching in when a car crashed at a notorious black spot.

The vehicle apparently lost control on Sunday morning and flipped over on the Sylfaen Bank section of the A458, west of Welshpool. Thankfully it stayed on the road and didn’t crash down onto the Llanfair line where the volunteers were pitching in.

“Twenty volunteers from the railway were working on the line immediately below the road; we directed traffic until the police took over but I was thankful the car had stayed on the road and not come through the hedge onto the railway, as has happened before,” said Charles Spencer, General Manager, Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway.

“Obviously we are also glad no one appeared seriously hurt. Ironically a speed camera van spent part of the day at the Sylfaen layby.”
