Words fail us!

Dozens of bags of dog poo have been shamelessly hung on a tree at one of our popular beauty spots, sparking outrage from runners and responsible dog walkers alike.

The area at the end of the high school playing fields close to the bridge straddling the canal is a shameful reminder of some of the mindless idiots that are amongst us.

It has even prompted one resident to mock their stupidity with a sign that reads “10 out of 10 for poop bags, zero out of 10 for tree decorations. Bin at bottom of Lane”.

We were alerted to the scene by a local runner, who asked not to be named.

“It’s bloody shameful,” he said. “The hedgerow is full of it. It is disgusting and absolutely shameful because it is such a lovely part of Welshpool.”

When we showed the picture to a dog walker who uses the area she said: “I have no words actually. Speechless!”

Graham Breeze, chairman of Welshpool Town Council Services Committee, described the situation as “disgraceful”.

“What type of person goes to the trouble of doing this sort of thing is beyond me,” he said.

“This is clearly a thought-out and calculated action by someone with absolutely no thought for the environment and the particularly beautiful walk along the canal towpath.

“What sort of impression of Welshpool does this leave visitors using the canal?

“Someone knows who is responsible and I would ask them to come forward and report the culprit.

“Town Council staff will probably have to deal with this in the interests of the town’s image but this is the not the sort of thing they should really be having to do.”
