Newtown’s Tabbitha Corrbett became the youngest ever winner of the upper individual title at the Montgomeryshire and District Airgun League’s Individual Championships held at The Royal Oak.

The 17-year-old shot superbly to clinch the title, with her age enabling her to also win the 17 and under category for a unique double.

She had to overcome some very impressive shooting by all the competitors on the night with 10 possibles of 35 being scored and 98% of matches being won by only one point or less.

The final itself was certainly a junior v senior moment with her opponent being Alan Baker of Churchstoke who at the young age of 74 proved that anyone can compete in the sport.

The two losing semi-finalists were Dave Morgan and Adam Hilditch.

The 17 and under runner up was Aaron Knight, of Guilsfield B, who was only beaten by .3 of a point for the title. The two semi-finalists were Jack Francis and Nia Roberts.

The lower individual tournament was again won by a young shooter, Aaron Williams, also of Guilsfield B, who held his nerve to take the title by out shooting Llanfair's Daniel Toozer by only one point. The semi-finalists were Dave Riley and Hywel Morgan.

Sixty shooters took aim at the Championships showing there is plenty of support for the sport in the area.

Possible 35's scored on the night.

Adam Hilditch 2, Alan Baker 2, Tabbitha Corrbett 2, Edward Kelton, Jane Thomas, Dave Morgan, Nigel Kelton, Roger Knight and Nick Lloyd.

Shooter of the week.

No Contest: Tabbitha Corrbett.

Match of the week

Several good head to heads, but finally decided on the 17 and under final between Tabitha (34.4) and Aaron Knight (34.1). A fantastic match between two two young guns.

Team of the week

Again no contest. This has to go to all those who helped out at the tournament. The markers and scorers who helped the range officer, the paper work kings who did all the score sheets, etc. All that helped with the draw, and everyone who cleared up and packed away. Fantastic team effort.
