Police step up patrols after more car attacks

09/02/2017 @ 06:56

The spate of attacks on cars has resulted in the police stepping up their patrols in the town, we have been told.

The local force says it is concerned over the recent increase in cars being damaged and the latest incidents reported of car aerials being stolen. They were taken from vehicles parked at Ballard’s Garage and the Quarry Garage forecourts over a weekend in January.

“As you are aware, we are having an increase in incidents involving vehicles so would remind people to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour,” said a spokesperson from the police station. “Officers are increasing patrols in relation to these incidents.”

There has also been another report reaching us of a car being damaged, this time on a driveway in the Severn Lane area of Welshpool on Saturday night. Police have not said whether the attacks and thefts are linked.

In previous attacks, car windows have been smashed in an apparent opportunist attempt to pinch anything of value from the car.

If you have any information, contact the station on 101. In the meantime police are reminding our readers not to leave anything of value in your cars, not even hidden in the glove box or under the seats.
