Castle shoot down League leaders

21/02/2017 @ 08:28

Castle Caereinion have thrown a cat amongst the pigeons by beating the league leaders in the Montgomeryshire & District Airgun League, sponsored by AE Electrical.

Using home advantage, Castle produced a masterful display to stun Arddleen 208.1-203, inflicting a rare defeat on the top dogs.

Richard Morgan shot a superb maximum score of 35.7, supported by Andy Mutch (35.4) and Hywel Morgan (35.4) getting possibles as Castle threw the title race wide open. Sixteen-year-old Jack Francis shot his own possible of 35.4 for the visitors.

The defeat means Guilsfield A have pulled level at the top, with Churchstoke only two points adrift.

Guilsfield A overcome village rivals Guilsfield B in a cracking match 200.9-199 with skipper Paul Phillips declaring after two nail biters in a week: “I'm ageing by the day, but what a sport!”

Churchstoke won 203.1-186.7 at a young Forden side with Jane Thomas adding yet another brilliant possible of 35.3 to her ever increasing collection.

Crew Green A overcome the village B side at the Rodney 200.3-199.6 despite the second string’s Ian Brown getting a possible 35.5 and Sue Brown not being out done by her brother, scoring her first possible 35.4.

Llanfair, without two of their regulars, entertained a talented Newtown side and despite an improving performance, they lost 196.7-192.0.

Shooter of the week.

Under normal circumstances this would have gone to a young lady getting her first 35 possible. However the superb maximum score of 35.7 score by Richard Morgan takes it.

Team of the week

Castle Caereinion for their superb shoot against the league leaders.

Match of the week

Impossible to choose between the Guilsfield derby and the the Crew Green derby.
