Pulling out the stops!

Talk about a mixed bag of results for the area’s top two teams at the weekend!

While Cobra were battling back against relegation fears, Welshpool were battling to get a team on the pitch following a dramatic couple of pre-match days.

In North Wales Division One, Cobra made it two wins from their last two games with a tight 11-8 victory over Mold. The result still leaves them in the bottom two but just a point behind Ruthin in 10th.

Welshpool enjoyed a victory of sorts in the fact that they were able to fulfil their Division Three fixture at Llanidloes.

Thirty-six hours earlier the club were down to seven players due to a number of factors, including a crippling injury list.

Because of league rules, calling the match off could have resulted in Welshpool losing all their points from a promising season so they rallied round and with players coming out of retirement to help, it was game on.

The boys battled hard and were only 10-0 down at half time, but Llanidloes powered their way to a 50-0 win in the second half.

Whilst the First team were in Llanidloes, the Youth team were away at Dolgellau, one of the strongest sides in their division, and went down 61-9.

On Sunday, the Under 12s were in Dolgellau at a festival. They put in some heroic performances on a very heavy pitch, and came away with wins over Dolgellau and Newtown, whilst they were narrowly beaten by Bro Ffestiniog, Bala and Aberystwyth.

This weekend is a quiet one, with only the Under 13s in action on Sunday morning, when they take on Shrewsbury (11am).

The clubhouse will be open from 2pm on Saturday ahead of the Wales v Scotland game, everyone is very welcome to enjoy the game on the big screens with reasonably priced drinks.
