The town lost one of its characters last November when news spread of Nicholas Jacks sadly passing away.
As his daughter Ellie describes him, ‘Nicky’ was “Welshpool through and through” and the outpouring of support spoke volumes for his popularity.
But now Ellie wants to give back to say thank-you to the emergency services that tried to save his life.
“I've decided that I wanted to give something to the people who tried so hard to save my dad,” said Ellie. “Without the Air Ambulance (Wales) my dad would have suffered more than he did, and would have limited his chances.
“So, on May 13, my friends and myself will be completely jumping out of our comfort zones and trekking up Snowdon to raise money for the Air Ambulance. This walk will be in memory of my lovely dad.
“He wasn't able to pull through, but the attention and care the team gave him was second to none, and he never would have reached Stoke Hospital as quick as he did.
“This charity is solely kept alive by public donations and fundraising. We definitely take things for granted, and this is something we really shouldn't.
“We would all be forever grateful for donations big or small. Every penny counts.”
Ellie is also organising a coffee morning on March 18, which includes face painting, children's craft, raffle and amazing prizes, tea coffee and cake.
