We’re nearing the end of our first week of fitness tips from our friends at Great Escape, and to celebrate we have been given a double dose of advice!
Firstly, the squat is one of the most effective exercises we can do, but are we doing it properly?
Charlie Proctor from Great Escape talks us through performing the perfect squat.
“Begin with your feet shoulder width apart and both feet facing directly forwards. As you lower your bottom down in an almost sitting down movement, try not to let your knees appear over your feet, allowing you to go slightly lower. During this, always maintain a nicely straight back to prevent injury. We like to use a gym bench for guidance on how low to actually go (just touch your bottom on the bench), or you can use a chair or the sofa at home.
“For the more difficult part of completing the rep, as you return back to the upright stance, always squeeze your glutes and bring your hips through maintaining that straight back.”
Secondly we’ve been given a nutritional challenge: Can we cut bread out of our diet for the next two weeks? Or alternatively, change your white bread to either whole grain or brown to see a difference in aiding fat loss. These small lifestyle changes can make a huge difference!
