Justine Baldwin, currently head teacher at Gungrog School, has been appointed as the new head for the town’s new English-Medium Church in Wales School.
Parents of pupils at the town’s four junior schools received letters this week from the new governing body explaining that Mrs Baldwin would head-up the school which will be built near Welshpool High School.
The four current primary schools in the town will be replaced by two new schools, one of each for English and Welsh streams.
The new English-medium Church in Wales school will be built near Welshpool High School on the Salop Road fields while the new Welsh medium primary school will be created at the current Ysgol Maesydre site.
When pupils return to school following the Summer holidays Mrs Baldwin will take control of Maesydre and Oldford schools as well as Gungrog until the new development is completed by the start of the 2018-19 school year.
Mrs Baldwin’s teaching career began at Llanidloes Primary School and Ysgol Rhiw-Bechan in Tregynon before being appointed deputy head teacher at Ysgol Babanod Ardwyn.
Before moving to Gungrog School she spent four years as deputy head teacher at Newbridge-on-Wye Church in Wales School.
Mrs Baldwin has served as a Peer Inspector for Estyn and is a member of the Professional Standards Committee for the General Teaching Council for Wales where her role has been to support the Council to uphold the high standards of practice and conduct in the teaching profession.
