Grant or no grant: The show must go on!

There will once again be a big voluntary effort by a dedicated group of people who have succeeded in bringing the Wales One-Act Play Festival finals to the area once again this summer.

The Montgomeryshire round will be held in Berriew on April 28 and 29 from 7pm each night, but the local Community Drama Association will also host the final at The Hafren on June 2 and 3.

To do so though, it will mean considerable fundraising with supporters already rolling up their sleeves to make it happen.

“We hosted the all-Wales final in Hafren in 2014, the first time a region received no financial help from the Drama Association of Wales,” said Pam Edwards Secretary of Montgomeryshire Community Drama Association. “They receive no Arts Council grants any more. It was tough going as it can be quite expensive but we managed to break even, so we're doing it again in June.”

The Montgomeryshire round at Berriew Community Centre will host 6 plays:

Friday: “A Little Box of Oblivion” by Stephen Bean (Guilsfield ADS); “Nine” by Jane Tucker (Llanymynech ADS) and “A Magic Night” by Dickon Faux Nightingale (Llanymynech)

Saturday: “You See It All On The Radio” by Jilly McNeil (Berriew MDS); “Emporium” by Bob Tucker (Llanymynech) and “Doubles” by Michael Frayn (Guilsfield).

Tickets (£5 or £8 for the two nights) can be obtained by telephoning Pam on 01938 555974.

Following this, the winners from all of the Wales regions will compete for the Welsh title at The Hafren in June with tickets already available via their box office and online.
