11/04/2017 @ 10:27

Welshpool High School has been given a ‘good’ report from Estyn, following its recent inspection.

In summary, the inspector found that both the school’s current performance and its prospects for improvement were both good.

The report has praised the school for showing a number of improvements over the past three years, pointing out that “the behaviour of nearly all pupils is exemplary and they develop effective social and life skills”.

How has the school responded?

Headteacher, Mr Jim Toal:

“We are very pleased that the Estyn Inspectors have recognised the strong work of the staff and the consistently very good results of the pupils.  We are delighted to note that the report also highlights the quality of leadership, the exemplary behaviour of the pupils, the caring and inclusive ethos, and high expectations of the school. This report signifies another important milestone in the continued success of Welshpool High School, of which the staff, pupils, parents, governors and the wider Welshpool community can be proud.”

Maxine Roberts, Deputy Chair of Governors

“The governors note that Estyn Inspectors commented specifically on the effective leadership that had secured very good levels of pupil wellbeing and improved outcomes that are above those of similar schools.  It is complemented by a clear culture of accountability and self- evaluation that all bodes well for the foreseeable future.”

Mark Hart, Chair of Governors:

“I invite all parents to scan the report, gain a feel for the highly positive remarks and retain a confidence about the leadership, teaching and environment in which our children are part of each day. This report highlights a very strong foundation from which continued refinements can be attained, which will be the focus for us all in the years ahead.”
