RSPB Cymru urges people in Powys to donate their old phones to help protect Britain’s wildlife

Are you up for the challenge to help preserve our environment? Do you want to protect the wildlife of Britain? Well now there is a perfect opportunity, and a World Record to beat!

All week and until Sunday, RSPB Cymru is asking you to donate your old mobile phones in a bid to break the World Record for the number of used mobiles donated in one week.

Teaming up with leading mobile phone recycling specialist Redeem, RSPB Cymru is urging everyone in Montgomeryshire to donate their old mobile phones to take part in the challenge and raise substantial funds for the charity, which protects birds and wildlife and the environment they live in.

Currently the World Record stands at 3,883 phones but together the RSPB and Redeem are hoping to smash this total by collecting over 5,000 phones, and raise over £10,000 for the charity.

It is estimated that there are thousands of phones lying dormant across Wales and approximately 90 million old mobile handsets gathering dust across the UK.

You can donate your old phone to the cause through collection points at RSPB Lake Vyrnwy or log on to http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/shops.aspx for more details about your nearest shop/office.

Alternatively you can log on to www.recyclingappeal.com/rspb or phone 08451 30 20 10 to find out how to make a phone donation.
