A well-known Welshpool man has died in what police are calling a ‘tragic incident’ at a residential area of the town.
Roger Jary, 79, secretary for Welshpool Baptist Church, is well known for his voluntary work, particularly with the young and elderly and is believed to have died whilst carrying out repairs to a roof in Henfaes Drive when he fell and sustained fatal injuries.
His daughters Julie Prince and Heather Simms described him as 'the best' and messages of support have been posted on Julie's Facebook page including one that simply reads: "Roger Will be Missed By All."
Roger, who married Mary at Welshpool Baptist Church in 1962, leaves behind his two daughters, Julie (married to Rob Prince)  and Heather (married to Dereck Simms), and five grandchildren, Gareth Simms (17), Catherine Simms (16), Hannah Simms (nine), Joseph Prince (six) and Isaac Prince (two).
A Dyfed Powys Police spokesperson: “We are currently investigating the sudden death of Mr Roger Jary, 79yrs from Welshpool, as a result of a tragic incident at Henfaes Drive, Welshpool at about 17.30hrs on Tuesday.  Mr Jary was carrying out repairs at a house when he fell and sustained fatal injuries.  The incident is being treated as a work-related death and the Health & Safety Executive are conducting a joint investigation with Dyfed-Powys Police.”
