The new director of MWT Cymru, the independent organisation representing around 600 tourism and hospitality businesses across Mid Wales, has called on everyone associated with tourism in the region to work together for success.

Dylan Roberts (pictured), joint managing director of award-winning caravan and motorhome dealership Salop Leisure, recently joined the MWT Cymru board. He succeeds Tony Bywater, chairman of Salop Leisure, who was a director for 10 years.

Salop Leisure also owns holiday home and touring parks in Mid Wales and Dylan has been involved in the industry for 34 years. He joined Salop Leisure 27 years ago.

Adopting the ‘Together Stronger’ slogan made famous by the Wales football team in Euro 2016, he believes all businesses associated with the tourism industry in Mid Wales are stronger working together rather than in isolation.

He also highlighted MWT Cymru’s investment in marketing to promote the region, with an upgraded website - - re-launched for Easter.

“It’s important that everyone associated with tourism, whether they are owners of B&Bs, guest houses, hotels, restaurants, visitor attractions, gift shops, activity centres, local food and beverage producers/ suppliers or caravan and camping parks, all work together to benefit the industry.

“The transport network has an important part to play also. Collectively through an organisation, such as MWT Cymru, it is essential for us all to promote Mid Wales as a first choice destination for holidays and day visits,” he said.

“Tourism is a key industry in Mid Wales in terms of the contribution it makes to the local economy and the jobs it creates and supports. I believe the Mid Wales has much to offer but it needs a strong organisation like MWT Cymru to market and promote the region.

“I am impressed by the value for money that membership of MWT Cymru offers to all types of businesses associated with tourism. One of my goals is to raise awareness within the business community of MWT Cymru’s work and objectives.

“Tourism businesses are much stronger working together within MWT Cymru than they are working in isolation. By increasing membership, the organisation will become stronger and expand and enhance the services it currently offers.

“Our aim must be to attract more visitors to spend their holidays and short breaks in Mid Wales. Making the region more attractive and accessible will hopefully increase inward investment for tourism, in the same way that North Wales has benefited in recent years.”
