As reports of fly tipping continue to spring up over social media from across our area, Powys County Council has told businesses that it is their ‘legal duty to ensure waste is collected’.

In a media statement issue last night, Powys is urging businesses to take advantage of the county council’s trade waste and recycling service and added that: ‘All commercial premises in the county have a legal duty to ensure their waste is collected and disposed of by an authorised waste carrier.’

Nigel Brinn, the council’s Head of Highways, Transport and Recycling, said: “All businesses in the county must ensure that their commercial waste is collected properly. We can offer the security of providing a responsible and reliable service.

“I hope that more businesses will take up the opportunity to benefit from our trade waste recycling service.”

The press release goes on to say that the council’s Trade Waste team provides a comprehensive service by assisting businesses to be environmentally responsible for their waste.

Benefits include:

·      Competitive prices

·      Scheduled collections

·      The ability to recycle a wide range of materials at most locations

·      The provision of a wide variety of containers

In addition, they can provide businesses with advice on how they can reduce, re-use and recycle their waste which not only assists with the council’s objectives to increase recycling but means the business is also making a contribution to a better environment as a whole.
