Welshpool remain in touch with the Shropshire Division One leaders after a superb bowling performance against bottom side Lilleshall.

Joe Monk and Rob Anderson took four wickets each to reduce the visitors to 141 all out in the 46th over, before opener Paul Chapman (33) and skipper Tom Anderson (32) forged a strong partnership to guide Pool home in the 36th over for the loss of six wickets.

James Corfield hit 52 for Montgomery who posted a respectable 181 after being put in to bat by Alberbury. But the hosts also liked the track to cruise home in the 42nd over with only four wickets lost. The defeat leaves Monty second from bottom.

Sam Griffiths has hit form for Guilsfield in Division Four after smashing 85 in his side’s decent total of 197 against Wroxeter III, who held out on 123-5 to deny full points for the villagers. The win puts Guilsfield in fourth.

Newtown’s batsmen were out of sorts after failing to compile a decent target in their Shropshire Premier League home defeat to Quatt.

After being put into bat, five players did manage to reach double figures but the hosts were still dismissed for 120 in the 46th over.

Ally Laird (3-36) made sure it was a bumpy early ride for the visitors’ response, but the mid-order got a grip to steer them home in the 25th over. The win brings them level with Newtown in fourth.

In the reserve leagues, Montgomery II were in unforgiving mood in Division Two after the bowlers demolished Pontesbury II for just 59. David Jones took 4-12. They needed just 15 overs to reach the target for the loss of five wickets.

The Newtown II and Welshpool II games were cancelled.
