Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (29)
Otm cows topped at £1097.92 (146ppkg) for a 752kg Limousin from RG, EM & PG Roberts, Tymawr. WT Jones & Co, Croesllwyn, presented an otm Limousin weighing 702kg making £961.74 (137ppkg).
Cows 48 to 72 months topped at £1393.92 (176ppkg) for a 792kg Limousin from CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall. Heifers under 48 months topped at £1229.40 (180ppkg) for a Limousin weighing in at 683kg also from CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall.
Cows 48 – 72 months (x2) averaged 155ppkg / £1174.14.
Heifers under 48 months (x4) averaged 146.03ppkg / £845.87.
Overall average of 127.25ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.

Mediums (1637) to 306ppkg from A L Davies, Ty Brith. Others to 302ppkg from E & S Thomas, Waentrefalau. Average of 248.96ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2068)
A good entry of culls this week topping at £138 for two cull rams from GO & OH Roberts, Rhandir. W & R Lewis, Springfield’s, sold a ram to £132. Cull ewes topped at £105 for 5 ewes from JA Gwalchmai, 5 Minffordd. DR Owen & Sons, Sandilands, sold a pen of 15 ewes making £102.
Averages for the day were £61 for ewes and £85 for rams.
COUPLES
A reduced seasonal entry of 192 couples with the vast majority being hoggs and lambs sold to a top price of £197 for two mule hoggs with twin lambs from T M Davies, Wynnstay Farm, who sold further lots to £188, £177 and £172. J V Davies sold 10 coloured mule hoggs with singles for £186 and £182.
Suffolk x hoggs hot £182 and £180 for a pen of 10 from I C Goodwin & Son, Lower Esgair.
Averages: 192 units averaged £154 or £75/life.

COWS & CALVES
Another excellent entry of cows and calves with a lot of quality forward was sold to a fantastic trade. Topping the sale at £3220 was a Limousin x 1st calver with a Limousin x heifer calf from MM & R Morris, Maestanyglwyden. From the same home was a Limousin x 1st calver with a heifer calf at £2600ans a Limousin x 1st calver with a bull calf at £2380.7 outfits from Maestanyglwyden averaged £2344.Presented by DP & RE Evans, Moelygarth, were 4 Limousin x 1st calvers with 2 heifer calves and 2 bull calves which sold to a top of £2400 and averaged £2270.RE & CJ Davies, Boycott Hall, sold a Limousin x 1st calver with a Limousin x heifer calf for £2380 and a Limousin x 2nd calver with a heifer calf at £2300 with 6 outfits averaging £2035.GD Roberts, Braich Trigwr Mawr, sold two 2009 born Limousin cows with a vull and a heifers calf for £2120 and £2000 respectively. IP Jones, Ddol Fawr, sold a Limousin x 1st calver with a bull calf at £2200 and another outfit at £2040. T S Morgan, Glanhafon Fach, sold two British Blue x 1st calvers with Limousin x calves at foot for £1800 a piece. F J Owens & Co, Llettygynfach, sold 6 2010/2011 born Blonde x cows with Blonde calves at foot to a top of £1920 to average £1605. A pedigree Gelbuich cow and calf from JBC Gwilliam sold for £1620.
A pure bred 30-month old Homebred Limousin bullwhose grandsire was Sympa, presented by DG Lewis & Co, Geufron, sold for £3150.
A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £3000 + 2lots, £2500 - £3000 1 lot, £2200 - £2500 8 lots, £2000 - £2200 5 lots, £1800 - £2000 10 lots, £1600 - £1800 8 lots, £1400 - £1600 3 lots.
