Arson investigation ongoing

Police say they have still not charged anyone in connection with the massive fire that engulfed a Welshpool business last month.

The fire broke out shortly before midnight on May 25 and caused widespread devastation to Canalside Carpets who resiliently dusted themselves down to continue trading from alternative premises.

Two vehicles and a forklift truck also went up in the blaze.

Dyfed-Powys Police arrested a 48-year-old local man within 24 hours of the incident on suspicion of arson but he was released on bail and, this morning, they told us: “The man is still on police bail and the investigation is ongoing.”

This blaze followed another inferno at a garage area close to the Westwood just a month earlier, with that arsonist is also still at large.

If you have any information, contact the police on 101.
