Plans to introduce paid parking in Llanfair Caereinion appear to be on the brink of being binned.
Powys County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Cllr Liam Fitzpatrick, wants to review the proposal to charge for using the car park off Watergate Street in Llanfair Caereinion.
He said that since being appointed to the role, he has been contacted by a number of concerned businesses and residents.
“Since becoming Cabinet Member for Highways, I have been contacted by a number of residents who are concerned about the impact these proposals will have on their local community,” said Cllr Fitzpatrick.
“I will be looking at the concerns that I have received since becoming Cabinet Member, along with the views the council received during the consultation on the proposals, and will be taking them into account when the review starts.”
MyWelshpool understands that the change of heart comes after hearing that the cost of implementing and maintaining the charge could outstrip the income.
Cllr Fitzpatrick will also review similar plans for Brecon (Orchard Street), Presteigne, Sennybridge and Talgarth.
Plans to introduce to residents parking permit schemes in Knighton (Market Street), Llandrindod Wells (Tremont and Ridgebourne) and Llanidloes (Church Place) will also be reviewed.
