Guilsfield Community Centre has admitted that it is in talks with a company hoping to erect a 17.5m telecommunications mast close to its sports facilities.

Earlier this week, local residents expressed concern after receiving letters from the Pegasus Group that it was planning a mast to improve current mobile connectivity and to open 4G services for Montgomeryshire’s biggest village.

Despite reassurances that it would be safe from radiation, residents believe the mast shouldn’t be located so close to the facilities and will air their fears through the ongoing public consultation.

And now the cash-strapped community centre committee has issued a statement to clarify its position.

It read: “Guilsfield Community Centre has been approached by and are in discussion with a mast development company to explore the potential of siting a telecoms mast on land near the ‘tea’ building of the Football Club which is owned by the Community Centre.

“We have an obligation under the Charity Commission to seek potential funding opportunities as an alternative to insolvency and therefore are unable to refuse to enter into discussions.

“If you have received a letter from Pegasus asking for comments please respond directly to them with your views. If you have not had a letter and wish to comment on the pre planning consultation proposals please pass on your views to the Community Council contact email:

“As volunteers on the Community Centre Committee we are unable to respond to any individual queries regarding this matter and these should be directed to Pegasus or Community Council as advised.”
