Calls for signs warning motorists not to block the exit from Welshpool Fire Station are being backed by the Town Council.
MyWelshpool has twice reported the exit blocked with motorists ignoring the yellow box junction outside the Severn Road station in the last month, delaying firefighters on their way to call outs.
Now Councillor Phil Pritchard has urged the Town Council to take up a call to erect signs warning drivers not to block the area and the council will investigate.
“People are simply not taking any notice of the box junction, particularly at peak traffic times,” Councillor Pritchard told Wednesday night’s meeting of the Town Council.
“Twice in the last three weeks firefighters have found their pathway from the station blocked by traffic, causing what could be crucial delays. I am taking the matter up with Powys County Council and would ask the Town Clerk to do so too on behalf of the Town Council.”
Station Officer Brendon McWhinnie said he was concerned by the blockages. “Queuing drivers are ignoring the yellow lines which means our engines being delayed on their way to emergency calls.
“There were signs warning motorists in years gone by and any move to improve the situation would be welcomed.”
