A £2m package of improvements to schools throughout Powys is to go ahead after yesterday's council approval.
The money will pay for a range of repairs, refurbishments and upgrades to areas such as kitchens and toilets.
Welshpool and Newtown high schools are two of the benefactors, and they will receive nearly £650,000 between them.
The improvements package was recommended for approval and the council's ruling board make a decision at a meeting.
Welshpool plans to spend £220,000 on roof repairs, while Newtown will use £223,000 on resurfacing tennis courts and a play area.
Newtown will also to spend £153,200 on replacements windows and £55,000 on resurfacing a bus park.
Eleven primary and high schools throughout Powys are to benefit from a range of projects.
Other schools affected include John Beddoes secondary school in Presteigne which is hoping to receive a total of £123,600 to upgrade internal lighting, to replace a boiler and to make roof repairs.
Meanwhile, Llanidloes Primary School intends to spend £122,000 refurbishing toilet blocks.
