Village’s ‘Great Get Together’

10/07/2017 @ 06:28

The village of Guilsfield came together for a community celebration that is set to become an annual event following its success.

The Great Get Together was held in communities throughout the country in memory of the murdered MP Jo Cox.

And Guilsfield did just that with scores of residents coming together on a piece of land between the village’s two pubs.

“Jo Cox was sadly murdered last June leaving her husband and children and the nation in shock, she was a lady that was fighting for people to live together in unity and Guilsfield certainly showed their true community spirit for the 'Great Get Together' in her honour,” said Sara Thomas, who added that it was likely to become an annual event.

“The village square was transformed with bunting, picnics, tables and chairs and the sun shone whilst local singer Steve Edwards did a great job of entertaining everyone.

“There were cakes for sale, ice cream and a raffle with all proceedings going to the Jo Cox Foundation and also to the Best Kept Village Fund so we can endeavour to keep the village looking welcoming and colourful.”

A total of £361.60 was raised and the organisers would like to thank everyone who attended the event and for their generosity, and also the local Cubs that did a sterling job collecting all the rubbish and selling cakes.
