The quick actions of residents prevented what could have been a very serious situation in town over the weekend.
As soon as a hedge fire broke out on Delwood Drive on Saturday night at around 8.30pm, residents dialed 999 and the local fire crew was there in rapid time.
“This resulted in the fire not spreading and causing even more extensive damage,” and a station spokesperson told us.
One car and an electrical pole were damaged but the fire was contained rpidly despite plumes of smoke covering the town. The station sent two fire crews including the rural response appliance.
There have been a number of hedge and grass fires locally over the past week and authorities are reminding residents to be cautious.
