Welshpool Town Council is considering organising a new style Transport Festival for next Summer.
Members of the Events Committee have discussed a proposal from Town Clerk Robert Robinson to launch the new event next June to help fill the void left by the decision not to hold the annual Bob Jones Air Show and Transport Festival.
Mr Robinson said the event would be a new style transport festival based around cycling, cars, buses, commercial vehicles, Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, aircraft, hot air balloons, tractors, canal boats and horse drawn vehicles.
“The event would run form 10am on a Saturday through to 2pm on a Sunday in June,” said Mr Robinson in the report.
“The event could be partly funded via a combined ticket for canal, bus and train trips during the day and by adding a small amount to the WLLR normal prices.
“The event could cover from Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool Main Line with the various displays and activities along the route. The railway could provide a regular service with buses in between. Llanfair Caereinion Station could provide steam vehicles,” he added.
The Events Committee recommended that the event is taken forward in principle with more detail to follow.
