Dog rescued from old mine

Llanfair Caereinion fire fighters needed a helping hand from Mountain and Cave Rescue specialists to save a dog on Sunday.

The dog, named Jim, was rounding up sheep on a farm near Lake Vyrnwy when he fell 50 feet down an old mine. The crew assessed the situation and realised specialists were needed so they called on the help of the volunteers from North Wales Rescue along with more volunteer personnel from North and South Wales Cane Rescue teams.

A joint effort got Jim to the surface where he was reported to be cold and shaken, and obviously a bit sore from the fall.

"We would like to express our thanks to the volunteers who didn't think twice about coming to Jim's aid," said a spokesperson from the Llanfair station.
