Police in Welshpool area set to use dashcam evidence

Police in Welshpool will be among those using dashcam video footage provided by the public to consider motoring offences.
Video sent to the police of dangerous driving will be considered as evidence towards possible criminal proceedings.
It is part of a Wales-wide decision to use such footage by the four police forces following a trial in North Wales. Dyfed Powys Police will consider footage from the force area.
In the trial, the public were asked to upload videos of dangerous driving to a website where officers would consider whether to take action against those filmed.
With more motorists using dashcams for evidence of accidents and insurance claims, the number of reported incidents using video footage to the police has increased.
The trial in North Wales resulted in 129 cases.
The operation will be part of the Go Safe partnership to operate across Wales which involves speed safety cameras.
Anyone uploading the footage will have to upload the whole video and not just of the incident.
This means details of the motorist recording the video will be available for police and this can often include speed, GPS and other information.
Motorists have also been told not to upload such incidents to social media if they are reporting it or to take it off social media if they have.
