Welshpool police in one-night crime blitz

18/02/2011 @ 03:12

A Friday night crime crackdown by Welshpool police has revealed today that a number of people were arrested for offences ranging from drink driving to drugs possession.

The Operation was run as a part of the National Special Constables Weekend where local specials worked alongside regular officers to put the squeeze on offenders.

And, according to police, it worked with two drivers arrested for drink driving out of 40 stopped; four out of 10 people searched were dealt with for public order offences, and one person was arrested for possession of cannabis.

The blitz took place last Friday night and the figures were revealed after we reported yesterday that Welshpool has a fight on its hands to eradicate anti-social crime.

A police spokesperson said: “Once again this Operation shows that Welshpool Police is committed to dealing positively with all quality of life issues that affect Welshpool and the surrounding towns and villages.

We encourage all residents to report issues to us that they believe affect their quality of life. This may range from anti social behaviour, crime issues, drugs misuse and alcohol issues.

“Quality of life issues such as drug and alcohol misuse and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and we will endeavour to deal with these issues positively with our partner agencies to improve the quality of life for our residents.”

All issues can be reported on the Dyfed-Powys non-emergency number of 101 or via e-mail at welshpooltownnpt@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk. If you have information, but do not wish to give your name, you can call crime stoppers anonymously on 0800  555111, you may be eligible for a community action trust award.

If you are interested in joining the Special Constabulary to work alongside regular police officers, e-mail the Welshpool Neighbourhood Team at the above e-mail address.
