Boots has been fined £10,000 after a 76-year-old man fell through an open trap door at its Welshpool shop.
The BBC reports that Martin Habberly needed hospital treatment to his leg after falling through an unguarded trap door which had been opened to allow meters to be read.
The company has admitted breaching health and safety regulations and was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay legal costs of £1,240 by Wrexham Magistrates. A civil claim for compensation is due to be settled soon.
Boots said the trap door should have been guarded by a member of staff at the time of the incident an untrained shopfloor employee had become distracted by another customer.
