Four local ladies will be taking on a monster challenge this week to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Starting today (Monday) Dianne Spencer, Sharon Davies, Fflur Roberts and Kim Evans (right) are attempting to run the whole of Glyndwr's way (135 miles) over four days, therefore completing a trail ultra-marathon every day.

They have already raised over £5,000 for battling Bowel and Cancer Research and there is still a chance to dig deep and support their efforts.

“We will be carrying our own food, drink, and kit and this challenge will not only be physically challenging but mentally challenging also,” said Sharon, who founded the popular Dolly Mixtures Running Club in the town.

“There will no doubt be ups and downs, tears of joy and of pain but we are determined to give it our all.

“Bowel cancer, Colitis and Crohn's disease has affected the lives of family and friends and this journey is hopefully going to raise lots of money to fund research and help many people suffering from one of these illnesses.”

They will start in Knighton and cover 31 miles on Day One, 31 miles on Day Two, 42 miles on Day Three and 31 miles on Day Four which will finish in Welshpool. All the routes are run over gruelling hills, fields and very rough terrain.
