Can we become the cleanest town in Wales?
Following a string of high profile fly tipping and other rubbish problems, the community has united behind the town council for a collective effort to keep the town clean.
As well as volunteers organising community litter picks, the town council has installed 20 new bins across the town with six more on the way. Others that were not being well used have been relocated to trouble spots. Shops and businesses have also taken responsibility for the public areas in front of their properties.
“The New bins have worked well,” said Town Clerk, Robert Robinson. “We have also moved bins around to make best use. I think we are doing OK as a town.”
Mr Robinson said that the investment was made by the Town Council and that the new six bins will cost a further £690, but they will try to tap up the County Council for funds. Last year the Town Council adopted all of the street cleaning services from Powys who give the town financial support each year to help with the costs.
