Firefighters from Welshpool and Llanfyllin performed a dramatic rescue this morning after a car plummeted 200 metres down a hillside following a road accident.
The frightening incident happened near Llangynog at around 8.40am, when the van is believed to have hit the lorry before going out of control down the hill.
Firefighters feared the worst, but were able to rescue the male driver who was taken to hospital by air ambulance, where his condition is said to be stable. The lorry driver was unhurt.
The road (pictured) was closed for several hours but has now been reopened.
