Welshpool up for awards

19/10/2017 @ 09:46

On a week when the town street cleaning service has been praised by residents, the town council has been shortlisted for two national awards.

Go Awards Wales recognise projects and initiatives carried out by public, private and third sector organisations, and Welshpool is in the running for two awards, with one of the shortlists containing two of the town’s projects.

The Town Council’s Street Scene team received widespread praise on social media when they were out and about first thing on Tuesday morning cleaning up after the windy night brought on by Storm Ophelia across the Irish Sea.

It has been shortlisted in the Project of the Year along with the town’s provision of lower cost housing for local people.

Welshpool’s Day Centre provision, which it took on from Powys County Council two years ago, is in the running for the Health and Social Care Award.

Officially supported by the Welsh Government and part of Wales’ Annual Festival of Procurement, the GO Awards Wales celebrate procurement excellence and innovation across eight categories and are open to public, private and third sector organisations.

The awards will be announced at a dinner in Cardiff on November 9.
