Town Hall rewiring could cost £30k

The next financial year could require a budget of up to £30,000 to rewire the Town Hall, it has been revealed.

A number of necessary patch-up jobs have been carried out in recent years to ensure the wiring was safe and functional, but it looks like the time has come for the big financial hit.

“Regulations are changing all the time which means we have got to the point where the Town Hall wiring will need to be completely redone,” said a Town Council spokesperson. “We don’t have a figure in mind yet and tenders will be sent out soon for the work to be done in the next financial year.”

The spokesperson added that grants will be applied for to limit the impact on their finances, with the job estimated to cost up to £30,000.

Five years ago nearly £200,000 was spent on repairing the Town Hall clock which had ground to a halt due to a number of problems including the build-up of pigeon poo.
