27/10/2017 @ 08:56

The people of Welshpool want emergency care to stay at Shrewsbury yesterday’s referendum revealed.

There was a turnout of only 13.6% of those able to vote but of the 668 who turned out 77% were in favour of Option One which would see both the 24 hour urgent care unit and the emergency care units remaining at Shrewsbury with 24 hour urgent care and planned care units located at Telford.

The other option would see emergency care at Telford and planned care at Shrewsbury.

A vote by pupils at Welshpool High School produced a similar result with 620 pupils voting and 80% in favour of Option One.

Town Clerk Robert Robinson said: “Welshpool Town Council will now fully support Option One which sees emergency 24 hour care and emergency care units being located at Shrewsbury.

Those who do not live in Welshpool will have a chance to express a view through the Futue Fit consultation later this year.”
