Shoplifters caught during spree

Thieves who stole a rack full of expensive razor blades from Tesco, and raided other stores in Welshpool and Newtown, weren’t sharp enough to evade local police officers.

Officers on foot patrol were alerted to the incidents on Wednesday afternoon, and caught up with the suspected thieves soon after in Newtown.

As a result, three people people were arrested and held at Newtown Police Station where one has been charged and the other two are still under investigation.

“There were three thefts in succession at Sainsburys and Tesco in Welshpool and the suspects were caught in Newtown having committed a further theft at Tesco there,” said a police spokesperson.
