Trederwen Springs ‘self-sufficient’

A recent investment has resulted in a local bottled water company becoming totally self-sufficient for the production and filling of their 500ml and 2 litre bottles of essence Spring Water.

Trederwen Springs in Llansantffraid have installed a VITO 1720, oil-free air compressor from SIAD Macchine Impianti S.p.A. (SIAD MI) in Italy which will operate in tandem with a PET blow moulder-filler-capper combi block.

The essence brand has also undergone a complete refresh and is now being wrapped in a redesigned, plastic label which is applied by a roll-fed labeller and packaged in a more environmentally friendly, light-weight bottle and cap. This will reduce the PET consumption by 17% in their 2 litre bottles.

The inclusion of the new VITO air compressor by SIAD MI, to efficiently feed oil-free air to the blow moulding installation, is also significantly contributing to the energy saving at the plant.

Trederwen Springs hopes to make additional commitments in the near future to reduce their environmental impact by further reducing the amount of PET in their packaging.

Dave Tinsley, CEO, said: “This is a significant investment for the company but gives us total control of our production and will result in increased flexibility and productivity, with an improved carbon footprint.”

Dave Rippon, the Trederwen Factory Manager who has master-minded the whole installation added: “This is a highly re-assuring development for all of us here - and will help us to give even better service to our customers. We have had wonderful support from our suppliers who have provided the very best technical assistance throughout.”

Trederwen Springs is now be able to produce over two million bottles each week.
