Llanfair’s wi-fi boost

12/08/2010 @ 12:37

Llanfair Caereinion is the first and only Powys County Council library to offer Wi-Fi, and it is proving an early hit with the local population.

Wi-Fi was introduced at the library as part of a £55,000 refurbishment project that was funded by Welsh Assembly Government Cymal Community Libraries Capital Development Programme and Powys County Council Council. Other work included improved lighting, furnishing and fittings and the introduction of a self-service issue terminal.

Mair Dafydd, Area Librarian with Powys County Council, said: "We are really pleased with how well the Wi-Fi is being used. We have offered free internet access at our libraries for some years but the benefit of Wi-Fi is that it's signal and reach is mobile. This means in Llanfair Caereinion, where we are located within another building, Wi-Fi is still available to our customers even when the library itself is closed."

Membership of all Powys libraries is free - just call into your local library or visit www.powys.gov.uk/libraries.  The opening hours for Llanfair Caereinion are Tuesday 10am-1pm, 2-5pm; Thursday 4-7pm; Friday 2-5pm; Saturday 10am-1pm. The branch has a wide range of books for both adults and children, dvds, audio books and access to computers.
