National Lottery players who buy a scratch card or a ticket for the draw on Wednesday, December 13 will have a chance to not only become a millionaire, but to visit one of our top attractions free of charge.

Powis Castle is opening its doors to National Lottery players who have proof that they have either purchased a ticket for the December 13 draw or a scratch card.

It’s the National Trust’s novel way of saying thank-you for more than £6.5 million of support from National Lottery players and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Without this support, the National Trust would be unable to undertake some of its most important and innovative work.

Visitors will be able to explore Powis Castle’s state rooms which provide a stunning backdrop for ‘Christmas with a twist’. Breaking from tradition, the castle will be firing visitors’ imagination with a range of different decorations, including a winter scene made of intricately folded paper cranes, historic dresses recreated with Christmas foliage and a bauble tree cascading from a chandelier.

For those looking to blow away the winter cobwebs, dress up warm and enjoy a peaceful wander through the castle’s magnificent garden. From the top terrace, admire breath-taking views of the Breidden Hills and across the Severn valley, beautifully woven willow structures adorned with fairy lights which decorate the borders and the garden’s 300-year-old yew tumps.

The Courtyard Shop will be open 11am-4pm with a selection of decorations, Christmas cards, gifts and festive foods. Every penny spent at the castle helps to fund conservation work for the coming year. The Courtyard Restaurant is also open.
