Major new housing development revealed

A major new housing development close to the site of the new primary school has been revealed.

The multi-million pound project at Gallowstree Bank, close to The Flash, landed on Welshpool Town Council’s planning desk in the week running up to Christmas, with the town’s opinions to be shared with Powys County Council in the new year.

However, there is not expected to be much objection due to the land being pre-approved for development through Welshpool’s Town and Community Plan 2017-2022.

“The site is within the development boundary of the town and therefore development is not an issue,” said a Town Council spokesperson. “This plan is in its very early stages and will go out to consultation in the New Year.”

It is believed that town planners are concerned about the amount of additional traffic that will be caused by the development, which will run alongside the current housing on Gallowstree Bank (pictured).

They also have concerns about the look of the houses which will be adjacent to the canal, so they would be the first buildings that canal users would see while approaching the town. They are also going to insist on more amenity space and a playground.
