Two officers were assaulted following a busy night for the local police force.

Readers reported late last night that at least seven police cars and vans were in Montgomery with rumours of a manhunt underway.

Official details are not available but one officer tweeted in the early hours that he was called out to “assist officers dealing with a violent crime in the local area. Suspect has been arrested thanks to the combined efforts of Dyfed-Powys, West Mercia Police and local community”.

Later he added that two officers had been punched, kicked and even bitten, with one requiring hospital treatment. However, it is not clear if the two tweets related to the same incident.

MyWelshpool has contacted Dyfed-Powys Police for official confirmation.
