Welshpool’s drug culture is being fuelled by shoplifting and other thefts, according to the town’s police force which is stepping up its fight.

Successful drug raids and arrests over the Festive Period have been followed by shoplifting charges prompting police to publicly make the generic link between the two, and asking for the public’s help.

“Items are being sold on in the #Welshpool area and are funding #drug habits,” Welshpool Police Station tweeted.

“Do you have any information? Do know who is buying? Call 101 or @CrimestoppersUK @Wales_CS with any info on thefts, disposal and drug supply. #helpustohelpyou.”

The force arrested a drugs dealer on New Year’s day in town and later made a successful raid on a property. Towards the end of last year, they discovered £4,500 of Class A drugs in a car in the town.
