New bus station for Welshpool

Welshpool is to have a new bus station to cope with the growing number of buses stopping in the town, and to try and lure more.

The Town Council has been told that Powys County Council cash is available in the next financial year, but rather than utilise the current stopping point on Church Street Car Park, the new station will be constructed on Berriew Street Car Park (pictured).

“The Town Clerk reported on a meeting between John Forsey (PCC) and himself and was told funds are available for a new bus station for Welshpool in the next financial year, and to that end he has to put forward proposals by the end of January 2018,” said a Town Council spokesperson.

The council’s Planning Committee was asked to give their preferred location so that such plans can proceed. After some debate, it was decided that behind the toilets on Berriew Street Car Park would be best suited and that pedestrians could easily access the town centre.
