‘Maesydre CCTV can’t come soon enough’

Last week’s announcement that Welshpool Town Council is considering CCTV at the Maesydre grounds can’t come soon enough for frustrated officials at the town’s football club.

Greeting them on Saturday for their home game was a tidal wave of rubbish and broken glass left by a mob from the previous night.

It has been a long running problem for officials who have had to clear up time and time again.

Committee member Dean Gill said that the pictures that he posted on Facebook are the perfect answer to anyone asking why the cameras are needed.

“These were just a few pictures from what we were faced with just to make people aware of what we have to put up with from week to week,” he said. “The worst thing is that there is a lot of broken glass smashed on the pitch as well.”

Annoyingly there are two bins installed close by but it seems that the people abusing the area simply don’t care.

Waterloo Rovers said that they too have faced the same problem on their pitch close by, while even the Bowling Club has reported problems with litter and broken glass.

The Town Council is expected to discuss the issue of CCTV at its next full meeting on February 28.
