The Friends of Montgomery Canal are organising a St David’s Day walk on March 4 at 10.30am.
Open to all, the walk will incorporate part of the Severn Way on a circular walk taking in Freestone Lock, Penarth Weir and Nature Reserve and return.
The meeting place is at the small car park on the right by the Severn Way travelling between Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn on the B4568, and you should arrive before the 10.30am departure for the pre-walk instruction.
There will be time for a coffee stop and a photo opportunity close to Freestone Lock during the walk, should you wish to bring a flask.
Sunday lunch is booked at the Abermule Hotel for around 12.30pm and it would be helpful if you could advise should you wish to partake.
“Please note that some of the walk will be muddy and will gently ascend to provide views over the valley,” said a spokesperson. “Come and join us for this two hour (ish) walk to have a look at some of our canal heritage. Non-members are more than welcome.”
