OH NO! There's more snow on the way

Powys has this afternoon been put back on snow alert with another 10cms forecast for high ground.

Government forecasters warn wintry showers could fall to low levels throughout Thursday threatening disruption to regions still reeling from last week’s big freeze.

A huge area of low pressure over the UK will sweep trailing weather fronts across the country bringing mild, moisture-laden air into contact with cold winds triggering snowfall.

Heavy rainfall will initially drench parts of the UK with showers turning wintry over hilly regions before falling as snow to low ground.

Liam Fitzpatrick, Powys County Council Cabinet Member for Highways warned of overnight snow. "I have just received reports that there is a possibility of rain turning to snow tonight up to a depth of 10cm on higher ground in the Powys area .

“This is deeply concerning and I would reiterate what I have said before - it is always better to be safe than sorry in situations like this. I am of course receiving regular reports from professionals.”

The news is a big blow for the county authority which is still battling to re-open road networks to badly affected and remote areas of Powys.
