Tesco will celebrate the opening of its new £37 million Welshpool superstore with a £1,000 charity donation next Monday.
And it has been confirmed that Welshpool Mayor Estelle Bleivas will be the guest of honour to cut a ribbon to officially open the store alongside its manager Linda McGill.
Following the official ceremony, Sue Richards, the administrative officer of T J Evans Trust, and Cllr Ann Holloway, one of its Trustees, will receive £1,000 for the charity which provides low cost sheltered housing to elderly residents.
The official launch ceremony will take place at 10am when customers can tuck in to complimentary cake, champagne and orange juice.
Linda said: “My staff and I are very excited about opening day. We hope that we can offer local residents a friendly and convenient place to shop and will strive to offer great value for money with fantastic customer service.”
In a press release, Tesco said it will provide three hours’ free parking and a petrol station.
It read: "As well as all the everyday essential items shoppers can expect from Tesco, the new store will offer hot chicken, fresh fish and meat counters, Indian and Chinese takeaway dishes, a delicatessen and a bakery, producing fresh products in store every day.
"There will also be a wide selection of non-food ranges, including clothing, health and beauty, home entertainment, electricals, toys, stationery homeware, cookware and a selection of mobile phones."
